Mini has released the Cooper 5 model
As the name says, this is the model with five doors, actually first one in their history and also with this body version they actually entry in a new segment.
Built by the third generation of this hatchback the five doors version offers three seats on the rear thanks to the long wheelbase. Through the model with five seats Mini is trying to reach another segment of the auto market.
In terms of dimensions, standard version of Mini Cooper has five doors and a length of 3.982 mm and a width of 1.727 mm, a height of 1.425 mm and a wheelbase of 2.567 mm. While the Cooper S and Cooper SD versions the body is a little bit longer totaling a length of 4.005 mm. Actually, the third generation of the hatchback was increased by 11 mm on height and 161 mm on length while the width remains unchanged.
Although we speak about a five door model now, and not three, the performances have not been modified, the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h it is now done with just 0.1 seconds more than the previous three-door brother, and we speak about 6.8 seconds.
All the engines offered have between 116 and 192 hp and comply with Euro 6. The petrol engines are the three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo with 136 hp and can reach a maximum speed of 207 km / h while the average fuel consumption is around 4.7-4.8 liters / 100 km. Second is the 2.0 liter that develops 192 horsepower that it is used for the Cooper S version, and can touch a maximum speed of 232 km / h and can consume about 5.9 – 6.0 liters per kilometer.
As diesel engines there are two units, the three-cylinder with 116 hp that consume around 3.6 – 3.7 liters per 100 km and is able to touch a maximum speed of 203 km / h, and, respectively, the 2.0-liter unit with 170 hp that is found on the Cooper SD model, that can touch 225 km / h and has an average fuel consumption of 4.1 – 4.3 liter per km. Latter engine it is offered for both six-speed automatic gearbox Steptronic / Steptronic Sport and also with the seven-speed manual transmission that comes as standard, as the Start & Stop system and the MINIMALISM technology necessary for a reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions also.
Third generation comes with three driving modes, MID, GREEN and SPORT, and the change between is made through a gear selector and alter how the car responds to throttle and steering and ambient lighting.
The five door body comes with a bigger boot, that totaling now 278 liter, with 67 more than previous three door version, 15 mm extra for the rear passengers head and 61 mm in width.
In terms of technology, the Mini customers can choose between a four-line display and a 8.8 inch TFT screen, the latter comes with a multimedia navigation system and Mini Connected range of different applications. The multimedia unit offers support for smartphones with Android operating system, and not only for iOS.
The model will be launched officially, in this autumn, at the Paris Motor Show.
